This mom gig

Sometimes I really really hate it. I know what your thinking...your thinking oh no you don't, you dislike it. Hate is such a strong word. yada yada yada. I say. oh no. I HATE it.

Last night was a rough go. Chloe had been SO naughty all day long. Constantly pestering/hitting/being mean to Brooke. No matter how many times she got in trouble for it, she kept going. I have been working with her about wiping herself after she goes #2. She wont do it. So, for this last week, I told her when X day came, she was going to have to do it herself. (or at least try! She's almost 5 for crying outloud!) Well, last night about 7, she wouldn't do it. Flat out refused to do it. So, this is what I hear from her all night:

"How can you do this to me??? How can you make me do everything myself!! It's not fair"

Can we say drama?? Well, she was so bad that she got put to bed early. She usually has this long drawn out bedtime routine, but it was cut to a prayer and a goodnight. She did NOT like this. Not one bit. Guess how long this went on for?? She was put to bed at 7:45 (15 minutes early) and she did not go to sleep until after 11!!!!! I did something last night that I have NEVER done to her before. I took away her beloved blankie. Sad huh? I really hope she learned.

So, I go to bed feeling like the meanest mom in the whole world and hating being a parent.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

I loved this book. This book made me feel on so many different levels. It made me both sad and happy. I cried and I laughed. I even ached for the characters as I read it. This book has so many twists and turns, most of which you don't even see coming. You completely get emersed in the story as you read it. I have never ready anything that has to deal with the Afghanistans or their life styles or even te things that happened to them in the recent years and I have to say that I learned alot in this book even though it is fiction.

The friendship between Amir and Hassan is both beautiful yet frusterating at the same time. It is a great story about friendships, betrayal, love, jealousy and conflict between all characters. This book is real.

One review that I read on this book says this:

Hosseini deftly paints his characters as real, flawed human beings, all victims of each other's weaknesses as well as their own. It is compellingly written, I would recommend it for that alone

I completely agree with this 100%. This book is a MUST read. It is probably one of the best books that I have read in a long time. It will take you on a long rollercoaster ride of emotions, but it is SO worth the read.

There's no place like home

Is what Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz when she wanted to go home. But, my question is - WHY, why oh why, would she want to go back home to Kansas?!?!

Right now, I'm in Kansas. Were on vacation over the Labor Day weekend and of all places to end up, were in Kansas. Why on earth would you want to live in a place where a tornado can suck up your home and leave it in some strange world full of grown people who are only 3 feet tall with a witch chasing after you?

Kansas. Boy oh boy.

So, yesterday I was driving through Kansas to go meet a friend and it was a very odd experience. I felt totally out of my element.

I drove through this town by the name of Inman. If you remmeber it, I am totally surprised. You probably didn't blink. Well, you know how when you drive into a town and they have the sign that says "Welcome to....." and then it gives a small quote about the town? Well, the town of Inman has a quote that says, "The place where people choose to live". I am pretty sure that they ment, "The place where 1 person has chose to live". Inman is only a 1 person town. Seriously. It is that small.

Then a little ways up the street, I swear I saw the location where they filmed the movie Children of the Corn. How freaky is that. To be driving down the road with just you and your 6 month old son, wondering when the little children are going to come running out of the corn fields to kill us. Fa-ree-k-ee. I tell you that!

So, here I am in Kansas. The land of the Children of the Corn. Great. Tonight, I think i'll be dreaming of the same thing that Dorothy did. There is no place like home. But, i'll be dreaming of Texas.

A Friday Funny
